Well, we took the leap and are trying Google Adwords. We're sponsoring several "webmaster" related phrases. It'll be interesting to see how much traffic Google can deliver.
I'll keep you all posted as to the numbers. 8)

We just got some webmaster related search terms. Starting out small to see what kind of traffic they can deliver.
I'll have some stats for you tomorrow. 8)

Just checked the stats on Google. They're reporting 116 clicks since we started yesterday. Not bad, I guess.

Hi clickcraze,
Welcome to the forum! :D
The Google Adwords has been doing good so far; 100 clicks a day with just a few search terms. It's a great program. In comparison to Overture, it's a lot friendlier, too. Overture can be a real pain in the a**.

the total traffic is 100 hits a day?

No. We were getting 100 uniques a day just from links and word of mouth, before we started the Google Adwords campaign. Main referrer is phpBB.com, where I am an active member :) .

Ok. The Overture thing.
When we launched Just-Contractors.com, we wanted to build up a good user base rather quickly, so we signed up with Overture. We submitted over 100 listings for approval. Several were rejected on the basis that they were not relevant enough. We did not submit irrelevant listings, so we appealed the decision. One of the rejected listings was for the keyword "contractor". We had a hard time understanding why this listing could be rejected. It was, after all, a contractor directory with contractor job board and a contractors forum.
We finally talked to the right people about it, but it took a long time and a lot of frustration. This experience discouraged us from submitting any more listings for approval so we upgraded to "Gold Service" account, and paid Overture to create a listings for us.
A really annoying feature of Overture is that they pretend to allow only relevant sites to sponsor keywords, and only sites that serve all regions affected by that search, but it isn't true at all.
Take a look:
http://www.overture.com/d/search/?type=home&Keywords=contractor

The top listing is for a school that helps contractors pass the California state contractor exam. It's regional, and irrelevant. This site has no information about contractors and no links to information about contractors. All in all, 99.9% of all people conducting a search for "contractors" are NOT looking for a California contractor license exam prep school.

If you don't mind me askin. How many keywords are you using?
I've been playing with that cool little feature Google has where you choose the keyword and it tells you approximatley how many clicks and how much it will cost per day. I could never get it above 10 clicks a day.But that was using only about 4 keyword phrases.

Does the tool come close to how many hits you actually get?

Thanks

I chose to use single word keywords. I'm currently trying out "webmaster", and a few others. I like the program so far, but they did drop some of my other, more irrelevant keywords because the ctr was too low.

Just went and checked out the adwords program. Kind of nice that you can specify how much per day you would like to spend. The more you spend the more you show your ad...
Wow... keywords construction home and house could cost me a fortune.
