I read this somewhere: Don't go with virtual hosting - go with a stand alone ip so google can cache the web pages. Is this true? Google can't cache virtual hosted websites?

not sure on that really. I've never heard of google having problems with virtual hosting, but then again I am no google expert.

All of the webpages I build are hosted on virtual servers and happily index by google. It just means that there isn't a specific ip for a website. Google doesn't mind what ur ip is so long as it has some url details.

I would consider this theory of vitual hosting and google a myth.

I suspected that is just a myth. Thank ya Jeremy.

You need your site to be up when Google crawls it. For that reason I recommend dedicated servers to my commercial clients.

I do not see how the reliability of a website is not affected by it being a virtual or real ip hosted website. If you believe it is I would like to hear a further explaination as to how it does so that I might be better educated on the subject as you appear to be.

Would you recommend shared hosting for a business client? Will the site be up all the time?

That does not answer the question. Unless you are running a high profile website I truly do not see the point in wasting money on a dedicated server. Whether a server works or not has nothing to do with virtual hosting, what twaddle. As I mentioned, how about providing some evidence for your so far unsubstantiated claims so that we can all benefit from your wisdom.

Take it from a pro. You tell the client he needs a dedicated server. You show him the bill and charge $150 every month. The secret is you put 20 clients on the same server and charge them all $150 each. It's a sweet deal, and I just bought a new 2003 Mitsubishi 3000gt.

So basically what you're saying is that your a con artist and you charge people for something that they don't need and you don't even give them what you say you do anyway. What wonderful ethics you have. Sorry, I just don't agree with that at all. That's not professional, thats just fraudulent.

I own two cars and a house (which we just had built for us) and we just bought $3k worth of furniture day before yesterday. Imagine the costs of that per month. Makes your 3000gt look kind of insignificant, no?

And we do it all honestly, which gives us MUCH more business.

Enjoy it while it lasts!

Edit: Oh, and Google doesn't care about having your own IP address (I'm pretty sure none of the SEs worth a darn care about it). We have many high-profile customers using shared IP addresses and ranked very highly in Google.

A pro what? Con artist? That's not just unethical, it's illegal. It's called fraud.
And, hmm, would I rather have a Mitsubishi 3000 GT, or my integrity? I'll go with integrity.
That's disgusting. I hope they find out you've been conning them and you get sued for every penny.
