It appears that the roughly monthly google-dance has started - check your results at: http://www.google-dance.com

It might be a little early, as when I first noticed it was dancing, the results were VERY flaky... though, as always, your mileage may vary.

Actually, from what I can tell, it never really stopped shifting after the dance started on January 26th. Occasional major changes across the boards and then it relaxes for a bit. It seems to be not exactly dancing, but it's more than just flux.

This is very different from what's happened in past cycles.

The reason I thought it stopped before, is that our results, and those of ALL our customers had been rock steady for ages - today I noticed the movements again.

You're not wrong!

I thought that 2 days in a row. Twice. I've given up guessing now! Most sites I only check on once a week anyway.

The Google Dance has been getting stranger these past few months. Last month was just like this month - It started, a week goes by and I checked the backlinks for a couple major sites, and it would appear to have stopped. In fact, several people did declare it over. But then the next day it's back into flux.
It's either a longer dance, or more everflux, or something else I haven't thought of. For the time being, I'm hesitant to declare it over, or started.

Hmm I wonder if Google is playing with algorithm tweaks or something?

Our site went from #7 to #1 on the single most common search term for our product ;)

Hope it stays there!

Does Googlebot seem to have all but disappeared recently?

I haven't seen the bot recently... Wondering what's up. :?:

Earlier last month we saw a lot of different user-agents from the google ip space - I actually think they are attempting to weed out cloakers more effectively. We haven't really noticed any downturn in Googlebot visits (the reverse actually), I'd have to say that they are steadily growing in number (as you would expect from a company adding more pages steadily to their portfolio of sites they have generated.

Googlebot IP's:
Fresh: 64.68.82.*

Deep: 216.239.46.*

These ranges are visiting us as Googlebot - nslookups on nearly all appear correct.

216.239.46.X 13
216.239.46.X 15
64.68.82.X 2
64.68.84.X 1
64.68.85.X 1
64.68.86.X 3
66.11.165.X 1

Although the 66.11.165 range is bogus by first check.

Hmmm.... I spoke too soon. Had 3 sites deep crawled in the last 12 hours. It would seem the bot is alive and well, if not a bit sluggish this month.

66.11.165.X 1

I looked up that one and it shows:
Ottawa, Ontario doncaster.on.ca
