: Would anyone be interested?

I have been thinking for quite a while about starting some sort of news website. I think that I will make it where people, most likely members, can submit stories. I'd of course like to make it main stream news like political topics and stuff, but also with some special interest topics in there. I believe that i can use the same news program that www.foxnews.com uses because from what I can tell it is free. For right now this will not be a domain, rather just a sub domain of my site, but I do hope to make it a domain eventualy. I was just wondering if anyone on here would even be interested in such a thing, because it might take quite a bit of time to set up so I have to have people interested in it before I start making it.

Some thoughts..
Look at http://www.newsbyteens.com (Subkamran's site) A news site.. it's done outstanding.. but adults are less inclined to add news.. they just want it right now. Unless you pull newsfeeds from AP .. maybe that is what your are talking about with the FoxNews.. :D
Most news sites allow you to pull of RSS feeds from their sites..

yeah, i have thought about pulling in the ap news. I do want it where people can express their opinion somewhat too. I however do not want it to be just a teen site or a kid site, no offense sub, rather i want it just to be real news. I can't find the link to the script that fox uses now, makes me sad, they had it on there at one time........

I tried this a couple of years ago and had a helluva time getting people to submit on any kind of regular basis. We weren't using a feed though. Best of luck to you!

greg... haha.. I wasn't suggesting that it would be a kids or teen site.. I was just making the comparison. Younger individuals are more likely to formulate thoughts and express them than older individuals. So as filler you could infill with ap type news and have what you're talking about also with submitted news..
Great idea.. there aren't many sites around that let people really express themselves.

yeah, i know there are not. I am really wanting to make this a fairly big site. The hard part as always is getting people to come. I guess it is just me and my love for news and politics that got this thought going.

My first reaction was to say "Hell yeah! I'm there!", but I know that I rarely have time for that type of project. I may be able to submit occasionally, but you really wouldn't be able to count on my presence.

i really need to find a decent news server soon, and find out how to pull news off of the ap wire. any one have any suggestions on the news script? the one for foxnews i found out is not free....and the webpage for it sucked a big one so i just gave up on it and moved on.

http://www.alexanderdevelopment.net/scripting/php/code/moreoverxml.php
That takes news from Moreover and formats it into html for inclusion on your website.. I used to use it.. it's pretty good.. and can customize what newsfeeds you want.. http://www.moreover.com has gotten pretty big though.. used to be you could get the code no problem.. but I was just looking at their site.. and it's pretty hard to find how to grab it..
Check out http://php.resourceindex.com for some more news grabber scripts.. just search for news.

Just to let you know i found an article manager that I think i can deal with for now. It however requires me to enter editors by hand, which puts more control as far as the contributers on my part, but also creates more work. I am still working on getting a press feed. I really want real news and not techie news, just because that is what I am more interested in. So finding one seems to be a problem, then of course another problem will come about in trying to figure out how to put this on my page. So, if anyone is interested in becoming an editor let me know and i'll talk with you about it.
